Creator: Paul & Rudy (Rudy Beijnen), Seattle, Washington
Date funded: 6/9/2013
# backers: 4474
Amount: $264,527
They are not working with the backers. They should ship july last year, but they had lots of “problems” and do not show us the backers the results.
JTP author, Wow, the Embrace+ is quite a scam. It is 5 days shy of the one year anniversary of the successful funding of the campaign, and almost 11 months past the date we were expected to see completion. Granted, it was a lofty delivery goal, but I have seen more complicated designs completed in less time by less people. They have been stringing us along with updates and do not reply to any of the comments or questions in the comments section. This definitely is a bad mark on Kickstarter.
IH8KickStarter author, Paul and Rudy are scam artists and the Embrace+ kickstarter was b.s. from the beginning. It has been a year since funding to create what is essentially a rubber plastic band that lights up. Nothing more. There is no communication from the creators and no timeframe for competion. Chances are, these guys skipped town with the $250,000 they got in funding. I will never use kickstarter again.
*Last update April 2015, says they are shipping last batch and updating the software.

my goodness, the best thing is to go to the Kickstarter comments pages and see the 2000 plus comments and 45 yes 45 useless updates, Poor disgrace.Communication is key with backers and it keeps the trust with them.Over a year now and Kickstarter themselves have not stepped in to help the backers out simply because they have received their cut of the 250k that was raised. There is grounds for refunds as they are not providing what was set out in the campaign to the backers so what you pledged for is not what you are receiving. Again many mails went off to KS and none have been replied. I think this is really bad form on their part. At least Indiegogo helps you through the hardtimes and actually listens to you and replies. The tech has now been outdated too as with the speed of how technology evolves it redeems this redundant now. These are not business men or sellers but pure fraudsters. What kind of after service help and support are we going to get even if we do receive them. zip id say

Let me sum up my embrace+ experience here…I backed the embrace plus project last year May 21, 2013. They suppose to ship out the final products to all backers in July 2013, which we haven’t receive anything as of today. I believe all the backers understand the concept of how kickstarter works, and we all understand delay of a product in development is normal. But the poor communication from the creator (Paul Hornikx & Rudi Beijnen) is unacceptable. Also, I do think this project has some level of scam. At the beginning of the project, the creator Paul Hornikx & Rudi Beijnen was pushing new stretch goals asking us to spread the words and put more money into the project, and we did. From the backers’ efforts, we have managed to get a quarter million for this project from 4474 backers. And now…we found out that Paul Hornikx & Rudi Beijnen are unable to deliver MOST of the stretch goals we met by throwing more money into the project. If a shop unable to deliver a product they promised, is that a scam? I surely think so! Throwing out fake ideas that will never achieve to suck in more money is definitely a scam. Paul Hornikx & Rudi Beijnen by far has the worst customer service on kickstarter. They will never answer questions from backers in comment and update section. Matter of fact, some backers till now haven’t receive the survey to pick the details for the embrace plus….I can go on forever about how shit this project and Paul & Rudi…just go to the kickstarter page and look through the comment section, you will understand what’s going on. The only thing I got out of this project, is laughing when I read the comments from other backers.

I’m a backer of the Embrace+ project, and was a backer of the original Embrace campaign, which failed to achieve the creator’s funding goal. While I realize there is a great deal of frustration from many backers, I am actually very hopeful for this project. Based on the updates I’ve seen, and the quality of the backers’ experiences, I fully expect to receive a working model of a well built product. The timeline on development and fulfillment are not what many (including myself) expected – we are now well past the backer’s original July 2013 expected shipping date. That said – hardware is difficult, and we have seen many such delays with Kickstarter initiatives of this variety. These creators may not be treating this project as their only means of income, and may not have the urgency we would like to see – and their end product may be obviated by something new, like the impending iWatch – but i feel this is one of the risks of early-ordering and crowdfunding. The Embrace+ creators could certainly to a better job of communicating, but I do not feel like they are scamming backers like other projects listed in this forum.
