The Works of Mercy
“The Works of Mercy” is a video game scam on both Kickstarter and Steam scam. The developer has claimed the game will be released imminently for the last two years, including make fake release date announcements (only to delay things yet again days before the game was allegedly set to be release.
They’ve released video of an alleged demo as well as a couple in-game footage videos, but any avid gamer and developer will note the massive discrepancies even between videos, and conveniently, despite their apparently having been a playable demo for nearly two years now, they have never let anyone play it, only showed fake videos of it on YouTube.
They have also promised early access to backers, but the dates have come and gone without access codes, just like launch dates. The fake developer is actually quite active on social media to keep up appearances, responding to people enthusiastically, telling them they’ll private message them instead. However, they also very actively delete any criticism, and pointing out the evidence that their games are a scam will get you banned pretty quickly.
The developer has also changed their name (sometimes Pentacle, sometimes PlayWay)—their website accepts direct donations (big red flag) via PayPal instead of directing you to the Kickstarter. Honestly, give Pentacle’s Facebook a scroll and you’ll quickly see they’re scammers—they’ve been recycling the same screenshots and footage for years now, capitalizing on short attention spans, each time claiming they’re brand new and that release is just around the corner!
Similarly, their latest announcements, which delay the release date yet again, only serve to promote another scam, which is another video game called “The Beast Inside” (also a Kickstarter that should be marked as a scam).
